April Lunch & Learn

Why is Your Name Upside Down?

Our April speaker is David Oakley from BooneOakley agency. They are well known for their creative and brand development. David recently wrote a book called “Why Is Your Name Upside Down?”

Don’t do things that people will remember. Do things that people will never forget. Like eating a fishing worm to make a point. Why is Your Name Upside Down? is a collection of hilariously entertaining stories from award-winning creative director David Oakley’s adventures in advertising. For over 25 years, David has been creating provocative brand stories and experiences that people want to share. From starting his own agency with the biggest presidential campaign blunder in history to smashing a car with a giant muffin, David’s stories are a rollicking good read.

These stories go well beyond advice to the young advertising professional. Even people who hate advertising will love learning how to make peace with the “Celine Dion curse,” how a Ping-Pong table bought from a drug dealer can cure your writer’s block, and how to deal with a celebrity spokesman who insists on destroying your client’s product. If for nothing else, you should read Why is Your Name Upside Down? just to find out why Oakley is upside down.

About BooneOakley:

We’re BooneOakley and we help brands emerge.

Too many brands are trapped in the wake of a category leader.  They find themselves continually chasing and being defined by the dominant brand as they struggle to compete in highly crowded or competitive marketplaces.  The cycle can be harrowing and costly if not reconsidered.

Instead of continually chasing number one, BooneOakley helps you take advantage of and shape your upmarket position, your number one.We lead you through a process to help define where you want to be by collaborating with you to discover what is exceptional, useful and beautiful about your brand.  We help your brand emerge to its own space.

Brands emerge when they claim the space they were meant for. This goes way beyond advertising.  We help you establish a fully integrated communications platform to incite a broader dialog about your brand within the marketplace. Our job is to redefine the terms on which you engage the marketplace, so you can reach the peaks of your emergent potential.

Our ultimate goal is to help you be the leader in your space.
